Let me just get this out of the way – I hate to cook!
I have this recurring fantasy that all my meals just appear ready and waiting for me to devour them. Of course, they have to be healthy (winks eye). I don’t know where this aversion to the culinary arts came from because my mom is an awesome cook. She can take the last 5 ingredients in your pantry and with the finesse of Edward Scissorhands whip up a gourmet meal. I just don’t get the joy in cooking and in my opinion, I don’t know why anyone would want to be a chef as a career. I spend most of my life trying to avoid the kitchen and I can’t see why anyone would pay money for an education that would keep them in the kitchen. No disrespect for chefs, but that profession is as foreign to me as being a snake charmer – who would want to do that?? The pressure cooker has been changing me little by little.
Do You Ever Cook?
Of course, I do. I have raised 3 children and managed to keep them alive regardless of my hatred of cooking. It is like paying bills – you hate to do it, but it is a necessity. Funny thing – I have a hobby of making gingerbread houses from scratch. During the holiday season, everyone in my household is bombarded with the smell of freshly baked gingerbread, mounds of icing, and buckets of candy. It is a mashup of Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and the witch’s house from Hansel and Gretal. LOL! Now that we are living in an RV, I still might attempt a few houses, but not on such a large scale. I wouldn’t consider that cooking. Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated 28 blissful years of marriage. You would think after 28 years, he would know me better than anyone else. Yet, after 28 years, he will still ask me, “What’s for dinner?” I just look at him with a blank stare like he is speaking a foreign language.
What Made Me Hate To Cook Less
I have to be honest, I still hate to cook. There is an appliance that has come into my life that has made me hate to cook less. This would be my electric pressure cooker.
Reasons I love the pressure cooker:
- One pot
- Dump stuff in it
- Push a button
- Approx. 30 minutes later I have a meal.
- No shortage of recipes online – because apparently there is a whole tribe of people that use a pressure cooker. I will be amassing recipes and post them on my blog.
I guess I don’t really have any REAL FRIENDS – because if I did, they would have told me about this little secret. Just kidding – but really I had to find out about this on my own. Consider this a PSA for all of you chefs, want to be chefs, and the outer fringe people like me that hate to cook.
I know this appliance was invented just for me. It cooks fast and I have only one pot to clean. I don’t know how it works and I don’t really care how it works. It is magic and you never question magic!
Reasons the Pressure Cooker is Perfect for the RV Life
- It fits perfect in a cabinet.
- Does not use propane.
- Does not heat up the trailer.
It is a must-have for the simple RV life!
